A fashion brand client cancelled on me and used AI instead!

A client I've worked with on a couple of occasions cancelled a shoot we had booked and I later found out they used AI in replacement of me (a stylist). They're not a big client but I'm still annoyed that they were not honest about the cancellation reason and it was last minute (two days before). Is there a way to protect myself from this re-occurring, perhaps a cancellation fee agreement prior to booking?
